Meriden, New Hampshire · Since 1985

A little smokehouse.
A lot of heart.

Good food, familiar faces, and a taste of New Hampshire worth sharing.

Our story

Small has always suited us.

Our story began in 1985, when Andrew “Andy” Morandi started Garfield’s Smokehouse in Meriden, New Hampshire. He developed the secret old-fashioned cob and hardwood smoked flavor recipe that we still use today.

Since then, the story has grown through the Garfield family, the Taylor family across the street, and generations of Meriden neighbors who have worked alongside them. Today, Bill and Liz Taylor carry that story forward.

A New Hampshire family business.

Rooted in Meriden since 1985. Made by family and neighbors, for family and neighbors.

  1. 1985

    Andy’s original flavor

Andrew Morandi started the smokehouse in Meriden in 1985. Known to the family as Andy, he developed the secret old-fashioned cob and hardwood smoked flavor recipe that we still use today.

The business has changed hands within the family, but that hearty, bold flavor is still where it all begins.

  2. The Garfield family

    Don and Bobby

Andy’s daughter Bobby and her husband, Don Garfield, both worked in the smokehouse and later became its owners.

Their three children—Liz, Brian, and Catherine Garfield—grew up working here, too. The smokehouse was a family business in the most everyday sense: a place where the family grew up and worked together.

  3. Across the street

    Neighbors became family

Across the street were Taylor Farm and Taylor Brothers Sugarhouse. Don and Bobby’s close friends Steven and Gretchen Taylor ran the family dairy farm. Their three sons were James, Bill, and Robert.

Bill Taylor married Liz Garfield, bringing the two neighboring families together. Bill and Liz later became the owners of Garfield’s Smokehouse and still operate it today.

  4. Made by hand

    The work is personal

Our cheeses and meats are slow smoked by hand here in Meriden. We take a low-and-slow approach, giving that old-fashioned cob and hardwood flavor time to build.

Over the years, generations of family and Meriden neighbors have worked alongside one another to keep that flavor going.

  5. At home in Meriden

Our little corner of New Hampshire

Our smokehouse is still right here on Main Street in Meriden. We prepare, smoke, and package our products here, in the same town where our story began.

We’re proud to be a small, local business, making something delicious for our neighbors and sharing it with people farther from home.

  6. Still carrying it on

    Still a family business

From Andy’s original recipe to Bill and Liz today, Garfield’s has always been about people as much as food. Generations of Taylors, Garfields, and Meriden locals have helped bring our flavor to the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont, and beyond.

We’re still a real, small family business. Good food, made by your neighbors, and simply delicious.

A few things to know

Rooted in a real place.

Since 1985

A small family business with a long connection to smokehouse food.

Meriden, NH

Our shop and our sense of home, on Main Street in New Hampshire.

Made for sharing

Smoked cheeses, pepperoni, maple, and good things for someone’s table.

The flavor of the smokehouse

You’ll know it by the first slice.

Our smoked cheeses are cold smoked, and our small-batch pepperoni gets its character from corn cobs and select New Hampshire hardwood. It’s the flavor at the center of Garfield’s, whether you’re making a simple cracker snack or setting out a board for company.

Different cheeses bring different character. Our Smoked Cheese has its own creamy, savory appeal; our Smoked Cheddar begins with aged sharp cheddar. There is room at the table for both.

Something sweet from the family

Save a place for maple.

The connection to Taylor Brothers is a family one, with Taylor Farm and Taylor Brothers Sugarhouse across the street from the smokehouse. The neighboring Taylor and Garfield families became one when Bill and Liz married.

Today, Taylor Brothers Maple Syrup has a familiar place alongside our smoked cheeses and pepperoni. Bring home a jug, add pancake and waffle mix, and make a morning of it. It is another way to share a little of the place we call home.
